13,000 km² and no digital tool
KMUT Survey App
13,000 km² surveyed with real-time GIS data capture.
The challenge
Complex constraints.Real-world pressure.
Before architecture and implementation, we mapped every operational blocker and business risk. These were the core constraints shaping the entire solution design.
Paper surveys with no standard schema
Zero offline field data capture
Months behind schedule and over budget
What we built
A system built for the problem, not off the shelf.
We built a GIS-native survey application with a local-first architecture. All base maps, ward boundaries, and survey checklists were pre-loaded on the device. Field surveyors could capture asset location via GPS, complete type-specific forms, and photograph assets — all without connectivity.
A deterministic conflict-resolution protocol handled merged data from multiple surveyors covering overlapping areas. The sync engine compressed and prioritised data to minimise bandwidth on low-speed connections when uploading.
The central management dashboard allowed supervisors to monitor survey progress ward-by-ward, validate submissions, flag anomalies, and export data directly to GIS formats (GeoJSON, Shapefile) for integration with the utility's asset management systems.
Capabilities delivered
Every feature with a reason.
Offline-first GIS capture
Base maps, ward grids, and checklists pre-loaded. GPS asset capture, photo documentation, and form submission work with zero connectivity.
40+ asset type schemas
Custom structured forms for every utility asset type. Mandatory fields enforced locally — incomplete submissions cannot be finalised.
Deterministic offline sync
Conflict-resolution protocol handles multiple surveyors on overlapping zones. No duplicate records on merge.
Supervisor monitoring dashboard
Ward-level progress tracking, submission queue, anomaly flagging, and field team location visibility for supervisors.
GIS export
One-click export to GeoJSON and ESRI Shapefile for direct integration with existing GIS / asset management platforms.
Photo-to-asset linkage
Photos compressed and geo-tagged on device. Permanently linked to asset record — visible in both mobile and web interfaces.
Measured outcomes
Numbers that changed how they operate.
