1,800 km of lines climbed by inspection teams
Infrastructure Drone Inspection
1,800 km of power lines inspected without a single tower climb.
The challenge
Complex constraints.Real-world pressure.
Before architecture and implementation, we mapped every operational blocker and business risk. These were the core constraints shaping the entire solution design.
Only 2 inspection cycles per year feasible
Inspector safety incidents recurring every year
Defect reports filed in paper binders
What we built
A system built for the problem, not off the shelf.
We designed a structured drone inspection programme tailored to power transmission line characteristics. Fixed inspection routes were mapped for the full 1,800 km, with automated flight plans parameterised for tower height, conductor clearances, and obstructions.
Inspection drones captured high-resolution RGB and thermal imagery at each tower, with RGB for structural defects and thermal for resistive joints, hot spots, and insulator failures. Automated anomaly detection flagged defects for human review, reducing manual review time by 65%.
All inspection findings were logged into a structured asset registry: each tower, each component, each defect, with GPS coordinates, severity classification, and remediation recommendation. The utility transitioned from paper binders to a fully digital asset health database.
Capabilities delivered
Every feature with a reason.
Automated transmission line flights
Pre-programmed flight routes for 1,800 km. Autonomous tower-by-tower inspection with obstruction sensing and auto-return.
RGB & thermal dual-sensor capture
High-res RGB for structural defects. Thermal imaging for hot spots, resistive joints, and insulator failure.
AI-assisted defect detection
Automated flagging of conductor damage, hardware corrosion, insulator cracks, and thermal anomalies. 65% reduction in review time.
Digital asset registry
Every tower, component, and defect in a searchable GPS-linked database. Defect history and remediation tracking per asset.
Prioritised maintenance work orders
Defects classified by severity and risk. Auto-generated work orders with GPS coordinates for maintenance crews.
Compliance & regulatory reporting
Structured inspection reports in formats required for regulator submission. Full audit trail with imagery evidence.
Measured outcomes
Numbers that changed how they operate.
